چکیده

To evaluate the concentration of naturally occurring radioactive material particularly, uranium concentration in fly ash, samples were collected from Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant, Bathinda, Punjab, India and Suratgarh Super Thermal Power Station, Suratgarh, Rajasthan, India during 2010 to 2012. Samples were processed using ICP-MS (Inductively coupled plasma – mass spectrometry) with multi-element standards. A maximum and minimum concentration of uranium (4.99 mg.kg-1 and 0.63 mg.kg-1) was recorded in fly samples collected from SSTP, Suratgarh. Further, results were found to be very alarming and special action may be taken to prevent the exploration of uranium to the human being, live stocks and natural vegetations. However, this was a little attempt, and further study in this direction is recommended. Concentration of cesium was found in permissible level as data given by WHO but Uranium concentration is high in those area. Keywords— fly ash, ICP-MS, Thermal plant, uranium, WHO.

Effect of a thermal power plant waste fly ash on leguminous and non-leguminous leafy vegetables in extracting maximum benefits from P and K fertilization

Although the Indian population is largely vegetarian, not much attention has been given to the cultivation of vegetables, as compared to other crops like cereals, pulses and oil seeds. Therefore, the present study was conducted on two leafy vegetables, spinach (Spanacia oleracea L.) and methi (Trigonella foenum graecum L.) commonly grown in Aligarh, as the two popular vegetables of Indian diet....

Effect of carbon black and fly ash co-fillers content on mechanical and thermal behaviors of styrene butadiene rubber compounds

Fly ash (FA) is produced as a waste byproduct during the burning process of coal in thermal power plants whose cost is primarily associated to cleaning and transportation. It possesses mechanical properties on account of its constituents like silica and alumina. The use of FA as filler in styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) was of researchers’ interest to reinforce and/or to reduce product cost. In ...

Alpha radioactivity in Indian cement samples

ABSTRACT  Background: The essential constituents of cements like lime, silica and alumina are derived from earth’s crust in which radioactive elements like uranium, thorium etc are also present in varying amounts almost everywhere. These two elements are considered as the parent elements of uranium and thorium radioactive decay series in which radon and thoron are produced respectively as decay...
